Week 5


Tyrone is now 9 years of age. His parents have worked hard to provide him all that he needs to cope with his CP.  

* What medications (if any) was Tyrone likely prescribed given his diagnosis of CP?  
* Write a narrative “interview” in which you communicate with Tyrone in an effort to get to know him.
* Write a narrative “interview” in which you talk with Tyrone’s parents about him.
* Who is Tyrone? What kind of child is he? What might someone expect upon meeting Tyrone for the first time? Base Tyrone’s imagined personality on what you know about he and his family so far.

  1. 1. Common drugs prescribed to those with Cerebral Palsy include seizure medication and muscle spasm medication.

    2. Interview with Tyrone
    “So, Tyrone. How old are you?”
    “I’m 9”

    “What do you like to do in your free time?”
    “Play wii, I like to swim with my friends, I like to play fetch with my black lab hound mix”.

    What is your favorite subject in school?”
    “I like art because I get to draw all over the paper and use my hands and a big paintbrush, and I also really like science because animals are cool”

    Do you like visiting family?
    “Yeah they are the best! They give me candy and ice cream and new wii toys!”

    What is your favorite game on Wii?
    “MARIO CART DUH! I get to use the steering wheel.”

    What is your favorite animal?
    “I already told you, my black lab hound mix, named sheep”

    oh right, sorry…what did you want to be when you grow up?
    “I want to go to the Olympics and win gold in swimming!!”

    “Oh that’s an awesome profession! In the mean time, what kind of TV shows do you watch”
    “OH MAN phineus and ferb is my favorite thing to watch! It’s on Disney channel and I love it.”



    3. Interview with PARENTS

    “So what are some of the struggles that you and your family are going through with CP?”
    “There is an added stress to our lives, mainly his physical well being is extremely important to us. Tyrone is still adventurous, which leads him to be careless and it at times causes stress when trying to care for him.”

    “How does Tyrone interact with other kids?”
    “He’s great, he doesn’t let his disability stop him, he’s become great friends with the boys on his swim team, and we always have his friends over to swim in our pool! His friends are extremely accepting; they see right through his disability. They have been such a blessing in our lives!”
    “How has the church community been involved in your lives, if they have been?”
    “THE CHURCH IS A GOD SEND!! They have been by our side, offering help, and even creating more accessible environment at the church. They are seeking out ways to help other families with kids with disabilities within the community.”

    “How are yall doing personally?”
    “Well, to be honest, I’ve never been happier. I can’t imagine our lives without Tyrone. He is so strong and he gives us inspiration everyday. “


    4. Tyrone is a joyful individual who doesn’t allow his disability to get him down. He is a hard worker, who believes in himself, his goals, and his beliefs. He is a definite extrovert. He loves to make others smile and he is always there for his friends. He believes that his disability makes him more able to do the things he loves.
